What is a Japanese engineer visa?
Japan’s Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa is a visa for foreigners with high professional qualifications who want to work in Japan. This visa is suitable for engineers, those working in the humanities, economics, services, and other professionals with specific specialized knowledge, or technological skills required by Japanese businesses. To be qualified, candidates need to have a formal college or university degree or demonstrate equivalent professional experience in the field they are applying to work in. This visa not only opens up career opportunities in one of the world’s largest economies but also provides the opportunity to experience Japan’s diverse and profound culture.
Conditions for participating in the program
To be eligible to apply for a visa and participate in a Japanese engineering program, you need to have a degree (College, University) related to the industry/occupation or professional work experience in the recruitment field. In addition, candidates must be sponsored by a Japanese company and meet Japanese language proficiency requirements depending on the level of job requirements. The Japanese engineer visa usually lasts between one and five years and can be extended.
Benefits of the program
Participating in the Japanese engineering program, you will experience a world-leading working environment, where quality and efficiency always come first. Training courses and practical work will help you improve your professional skills and best prepare for the career challenges ahead.
More than just work, this is also an opportunity for you to explore Japanese culture—from language, and cuisine to customs. Cultural exchange will broaden your horizons and improve your international communication skills.
Working in Japan, you will receive a high income with good benefits. Career advancement opportunities are clearly an integral part of these programs, ensuring career development that matches your abilities.
Foreign workers with a Japanese engineer visa can sponsor their spouses and children to come to Japan for family reunions. This is done through applying for a family reunification visa (sometimes called a dependent visa). This visa allows relatives of immigrant workers to live with them in Japan while the worker has an employment contract. To apply for this visa, workers need to demonstrate sufficient financial capacity to support their family in Japan, and legal procedures need to be completed strictly.
Regulations on employment for spouses: Normally, a dependent visa (Dependent Visa) does not automatically allow the visa holder to work in Japan. However, they can apply for a permit for activities other than the main purpose of the visa (Permission to Engage in Activity other than that Permitted under the Status of Residence Previously Granted) at the local immigration department.
This permit allows the dependent visa holder to work for a maximum limit of 28 hours a week. This is suitable for part-time jobs and does not include some occupations such as bars or night entertainment establishments.
Japan has a high-quality public education system, and children of foreign workers have the same access to it as other Japanese citizens. Public schools from elementary to high school in Japan are tuition-free. However, there are some additional costs such as uniforms, textbooks, and extracurricular activities that parents need to pay.
For those who desire to settle permanently, the program also paves the way for this through legal support and settlement procedures, helping you and your family establish a business and develop sustainably in Japan.
